SIMPLIFIED SEASONS: Fall Decor at Home
I love decorating for the seasons, especially this time of year. I keep it simple by refreshing and renewing with what we already have at home, with minimal additions of decor, neutral colors, cozy textures and light scents to bring warmth, calm and joy to the senses.
In the last couple of weeks, we’ve slowly brought fall into our home, re-arranging what we have, and swapping out existing items to make room for something new but old, tried and true from storage. I try my best to practice self-restraint, trusting what I have gathered over the years is what I really love and I don’t need much more but some natural greenery and a few real pumpkins. This approach forces me decorate more intentionally, and keeps my mind and home mostly de-cluttered.
Here’s a snapshot of how we’ve added some light fall touches at home.
Here’s my formula for fall, with a good dose of re-purposing and re-arranging what already surrounds us at home:
Minimalist faux wreaths. I have a few grapevine wreaths that I rotate through the year, and to them I’ve added minimal, seasonal touches of faux greenery and arrangements from my local Joann craft store. Here’s an example.
White pumpkins, in moderation. I have gathered a small collection of Dollar Spot faux white and gray pumpkins over the years. I re-use them every fall, and to them, I add a few real pumpkins to the mix, favoring long, curly stems.
Greenery. Fresh eucalyptus is my go-to bloom. It’s quick to arrange, looks great, lasts a long time and smells beautiful.
Seasonal scents. I do purchase a couple seasonal candles, and buy them for a discount at Home Goods. Sand & Fog and Scentsational are my favorite brands for barely-there scents in neutral vessels.
Cozy blankets. The chunky, warm blankets that have been stored for months come back into rotation in our main living space and bedrooms (totally denying the hot Southern California temps we are experiencing this week!).
How do you do fall at home?
